Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that the public has today rejected the government's policies.
In a post on X, former Solih stated that the outcome of Saturday's election is a clear message from the people that the government must change its current trajectory. He further emphasized that the government should immediately listen to the public's concerns and realign its policies in accordance with the people's will.
Former President Solih has congratulated the newly elected mayors, council presidents, Women's Development Committee (WDC) chairs, and all successful candidates following Saturday’s local council and WDC by-elections. He also expressed his gratitude to all citizens who cast their votes in favor of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidates.
The MDP achieved strong results in all three elections held on Saturday. Despite facing significant pressure from the government, the party’s success has sparked celebrations across the country. Members of the public are also noting that these results reflect a growing sense of widespread disillusionment with the current administration.
