The entire Maldives has turned "gold and yellow" once again, says Shahid
Based on the provisional results of the local council elections and general polls, the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has secured mayoral seats in five cities, including Male', along with a significant number of council seats. Following these results, MDP President Abdulla Shahid stated that the entire Maldives has once again turned "golden yellow," signaling a resurgence of the party's influence across the country.

MDP President Abdulla Shahid stated that the nation has witnessed the entire Maldives turning "golden yellow" once again.
Shahid made these remarks in a post on X following the Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) victory in the local council and Women's Development Committee by-elections, as well as a public referendum. In his post, Shahid emphasized that the public had sent a very clear message to the government through these elections. He also extended his gratitude and encouragement to the MDP’s resilient candidates, campaign teams, the party's grassroots supporters, and everyone who contributed to the successful electoral effort.
In a referendum held on Saturday, a significant majority of citizens expressed their opposition to holding presidential and parliamentary elections concurrently. According to provisional results, over 70% of voters indicated a preference for maintaining separate elections for the presidency and the legislature.
Furthermore, the opposition MDP has secured the mayoral seats in all five cities, including the capital, Male'. Additionally, the party has won a majority of seats across various local councils.
