Council President Vishal stated that the primary block of the Gaafu Alif Atoll Education Centre has been damaged beyond use following a devastating fire, marking a significant loss for the institution. While no injuries were reported, the Ministry of Education has assured that necessary arrangements will be made to provide students with essential learning materials.

The Vilingili Island Council has stated that a fire at the Gaafu Alif Atoll Education Centre is believed to have been caused by an electrical short circuit.
A fire broke out at the Gaafu Alif Atoll Education Centre late Thursday night, at approximately 12:40 a.m.
Vishal Mohamed, President of the Island Council, told RaajjeMV that the primary block of the Gaafu Alif Atoll Education Centre has been damaged beyond use. Describing it as a devastating loss, he noted that the fire completely destroyed the staff room, the printing room, and a classroom. The council president further detailed that the destruction included all student textbooks and essential equipment housed within the block, which were reduced to ashes.
Vishal further stated that the Ministry of Education has provided assurances that all necessary arrangements for the students' education will be in place, and that textbooks and other essential supplies will be available.
Referring to the cause of the fire, Vishal stated that it is largely believed to have been triggered by an electrical short circuit. He further confirmed that there have been no reports of any injuries resulting from the incident.
Regarding the incident, the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) stated that the fire at the school was brought under control at approximately 01:26 AM on Thursday night. This was achieved through the collaborative efforts of military personnel stationed in Villingili, local institutions, and members of the general public. The MNDF further confirmed that the fire was completely extinguished by approximately 02:50 AM.
