Hiyaaroadhige Fire Incident: Remand Extended by 30 Days for Arrested Youth
Police have submitted CCTV footage and a chronological timeline to the court showing Hussain Shahban, a resident of L. Maabaidhoo, entering and exiting G. Hiyaaroadhige, where he is accused of starting a fire. Following the presentation of investigative statements and details regarding the structural damage caused to the building, the Criminal Court has extended Shahban's remand for an additional 30 days. The fire, which broke out during the incident, was successfully extinguished through the joint efforts of emergency services and members of the public.

The Criminal Court has extended the detention of a young man arrested in connection with a fire at G. Hiyaaroadhige, located near the Galolhu Mortuary, by an additional 30 days.
A 29-year-old man, Hussain Shahban of Sabnam House, L. Maabaidhoo, was arrested under a court order on the night of March 22, 2024, in connection with a fire that broke out on the first floor of G. Hiyaaroadhige on the morning of March 18.
At that time, when he was brought before the court for a remand hearing, the court ordered him to be detained for a period of five days.
Upon the expiration of the initial detention period, the suspect was brought back before the court on Saturday, where his remand was extended by an additional 30 days. According to the court's remand report, police have obtained CCTV footage and a corresponding timeline showing the individual entering and leaving the premises in question.
In connection with the case, police have submitted a comprehensive evidence package to the court. This includes a photographic report featuring snapshots of Hussain Shahban’s movements, a detailed timeline of his activities, and documentation illustrating the extent of the fire damage.
Furthermore, the police have shared with the court the investigative statements, incident reports, and intelligence briefings related to the case, along with a detailed breakdown of the costs required to repair the damage sustained by the building in the fire.
The fire that broke out at a residence in Huvafenee Goalhi has been extinguished through the joint efforts of the police, Fire and Rescue Services, and members of the public.
