Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed has stated that the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) must be taught a lesson.
Minister Saeed made these remarks while speaking at a rally held on Friday night in the Ha. Hoarafushi constituency by the main ruling party, the People’s National Congress (PNC).
Speaking at the gathering, Saeed announced that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu will be the PNC candidate for the 2028 presidential election. He emphasized that the PNC must not concede under any circumstances until a second term in office is secured.
Saeed further asserted that the MDP must be shown a lesson this time. He stated that the PNC would become the first party in the Maldives to secure a second consecutive term in office. Saeed emphasized that the PNC currently possesses an experienced team—the same team that has previously driven the development of the Maldives.
This time, we will show the MDP what we are capable of. God willing, your party, the PNC, will become the first in this country to successfully secure a second term.Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed
During the gathering, Minister Saeed once again criticized the previous administration. He claimed that when President Muizzu took office, the country had been left in a state of financial ruin. However, Saeed did not provide further details or clarify how the situation had reached that point.
More than two years into President Muizzu’s administration, the most frequent topic of discussion remains the conduct of the previous government. Minister Saeed is among the most vocal figures on this subject. However, his tendency to use the former administration as a recurring excuse for every issue has drawn widespread public criticism.
