This administration has reduced nation's youth to level of "bonded labor" typically seen in the world's poorest countries: MP Ahmed Didi
MP Ahmed Didi has alleged that the government is creating a surge of jobs ahead of elections to exert political influence, claiming that positions are being granted without job descriptions or physical workspaces to intimidate and control the public. He urged citizens to remain vigilant against such coercive employment practices and called for collective efforts to change this situation.

Ahmed Didi, the Member of Parliament for the Maradhoo constituency, has stated that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration has reduced the Maldives' youth population to a state of "bonded labor," a condition typically seen in the world's poorest nations.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "Noonekey" campaign program, Didi stated that a significant number of job vacancies have been announced in anticipation of the upcoming elections. He noted that while many individuals are being hired, there is no actual work for them to perform, nor are there designated workspaces for these new employees. He further alleged that the government is distributing jobs to a large portion of local populations with the primary objective of exerting total control over these islands.
Furthermore, Didi stated that the current situation is significantly different, noting that government influence has become pervasive. He highlighted that a mother employed by the state no longer has the freedom to campaign for her own child if they are contesting the council elections against the government.
Jobs are being handed out without any actual roles, job descriptions, or designated workplaces. We are seeing a surge of such positions. A look at the Government Gazette reveals job advertisements posted on March 19 with deadlines as early as March 20 or 21, seeking to hire groups of 15, 20, or even 50 people at a time. This is not how a government or a state-owned enterprise should conduct recruitment. They are carrying this out in a completely shameless manner. Furthermore, those being hired are reportedly being threatened with dismissal if they do not vote for the government’s candidates. It has reached a point where it resembles "bonded labor," a practice typically seen in some of the world's poorest nations. The young population in several islands is being forced into this condition. People are being compelled to alter their entire lives out of fear of losing their livelihoods. The Maldivian people should never be degraded to such a level.Ahmed Didi, Member of Parliament for the Maradhoo constituency.
Highlighting the extreme prevalence of workplace coercion and intimidation, Didi stated that many citizens have fallen into the government's trap. He emphasized that the power to change this reality lies with the people and urged them to work towards that goal, asserting that such threats to employment cannot be allowed to continue.
