Former Environment Minister Aminath Shauna has been summoned and questioned by the Anti-Corruption Commission regarding a recommendation issued by the Economic Council three years ago.
Shauna was summoned to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Tuesday morning. Responding to inquiries from RaajjeMV regarding the matter, Shauna stated that she was summoned in connection with a recommendation issued by the Economic Council three years ago.
However, Shauna provided assurances that she did not commit any acts in violation of the Constitution or the laws of the Maldives during her tenure as Minister. She further stated that the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) had instructed her not to disclose specific details regarding the matter under investigation.
According to reports, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is currently investigating a case involving a recommendation made by the Economic Council regarding a compensation matter. The regulations governing the resolution of disputes arising from agreements between the government and private parties were established on November 28, 2022.
Under this policy, the compensation process begins once the relevant authority investigates the matter and submits it to the Settlement Committee. Following a review by the committee, the case is forwarded to the Economic Council. A final decision on compensation is then reached through Cabinet deliberations, based on the recommendations provided by the Council.
The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has accused the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) of summoning its senior members for the purpose of political intimidation. The opposition party claims that while numerous complaints against the current administration remain stalled at the commission, the ACC is prioritizing cases against MDP officials to achieve political leverage.
Previously, on October 3 last year, several former ministers from the MDP administration were also summoned to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to coincide with a major protest organized by the party.
