Saleem outlines reasons to vote for the scales
Former Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Ahmed Saleem stated that citizens have faced bitter consequences whenever they opted for ideologies other than the MDP in previous elections. He emphasized that only the MDP possesses the courage to advocate for decentralization and the devolution of power, asserting that the PNC’s governing philosophy remains focused on the centralization of authority.

Former Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Ahmed Saleem (Salle) has stated that voting for the "scales" (MDP) is the only option to ensure a favorable outcome in the upcoming local council elections, Women's Development Committee elections, and any potential referendums.
Speaking at a gathering held at the MDP headquarters on Monday night, Saleem stated that the country is currently navigating a very sensitive period. He highlighted the significance of the upcoming local council elections, the Women's Development Committee (WDC) elections, and the scheduled referendum. While the PNC is campaigning for votes under its bird emblem, the MDP continues to urge the public to cast their votes for the scales.
During Monday night's rally, Saleem outlined the reasons why voters should choose the "Scales" (MDP) over the "Bird" (PNC). He asserted that citizens have no viable alternative but to vote for the MDP, noting that previous experiences of voting otherwise have yielded unfavorable results for the public. Saleem further remarked that while the PNC campaigns for the "Bird" symbol, the public has already witnessed its conduct and impact over the past two and a half years. He concluded that this period has been a negative experience for the country.
Saleem stated that research also indicates certain bird species are not easily socialized with humans due to their inherent behavioral traits.
"When people talk about birds and then ask for votes, it brings back memories of past incidents. Because of a certain bird, even a bar of soap left on a well-cover isn't safe. That is simply how that bird behaves; that is its character. You can't even leave a piece of roshi in the kitchen because of that bird," Saleem said.
Saleem asserted that the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) is the only political entity advocating for a decentralized system, while those opposing the party's ideology favor a centralized approach. He stated that opposing decentralization under the guise of maintaining a unitary state is a defining characteristic of the People's National Congress (PNC) ideology. He further emphasized that the MDP is the only party with the courage to devolve powers.
Highlighting that no administration outside of the MDP has ever formulated an inclusive policy, Saleem asserted that the public would not be disadvantaged by voting for the party.
