Fathimath Zahiyya, the MDP candidate for the North Hulhumale' constituency in the upcoming local council elections, has pledged that an MDP-led council will advocate for and successfully transition all municipal services in Hulhumale' to the City Council, in line with President Muizzu’s presidential pledge.
Speaking at a series of "pickup rallies" organized by the MDP on Tuesday near the Vinares towers in Hulhumale' Phase 2, Zahiyya criticized the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), highlighting its failure to provide essential municipal services to the residents of Hulhumale'.
The Vinares flats remain under the jurisdiction of the Housing Development Corporation (HDC); however, the corporation has failed to provide even a fraction of the essential municipal services required by the residents. Despite this negligence, HDC is quick to issue legal notices to tenants at the slightest provocation. While the initial agreements mandated the formation of a management corporation with resident participation within one year, no such entity has been established to date. Furthermore, HDC has bypassed the owners of Vinares flats to sell off parking zones at exorbitant prices, in violation of established procedures. Even though residents are charged a substantial monthly maintenance fee, HDC has completely neglected the upkeep and maintenance of the Vinares premises.Fathimath Zahiyya, contesting for the North Hulhumale' constituency seat in the local council elections on the MDP ticket.
Furthermore, Zahiyya urged the Maldivian people not to fall for President Muizzu’s political theatrics under the guise of consolidating the two elections. Zahiyya called on all citizens to be prepared to deliver a resounding "no" to the ambiguous vote proposed for the synchronization of the elections.
Speakers at the "Pickup Rally" highlighted that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s attempt to consolidate elections through a deceptive public referendum is a calculated move to extend his presidential term. The speakers further emphasized that the public must rise against these actions and courageously voice their opposition.
