MDP Pickup Rally: "The consolidation of elections is a calculated move to reduce the frequency of voting, driven by a failure to fulfill promises made to the people."
Mohamed Rasheed Hussain stated that the government has lost public support due to its failure to fulfill pledges, suggesting that the move to consolidate elections is a tactic to minimize its accountability to the citizens. He further characterized this initiative as a calculated attempt to undermine fundamental rights and distance the administration from public scrutiny.

Former Member of Parliament Mohamed Rasheed Hussain has stated that the move to consolidate elections is a calculated attempt to reduce the frequency of polls after failing to fulfill pledges to the public, warning citizens not to fall for this deception.
He made these remarks while speaking at a pickup truck rally organized by the MDP on Monday evening.
He stated that as President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration approaches its one-and-a-half-year mark, the government is now ashamed to face the public because none of its pledges have been fulfilled. He further noted that, having lost public support, the administration is now attempting to seize control by reducing the frequency of elections.
"Any attempt to obstruct the holding of elections is a grave crime committed to deprive citizens of their fundamental rights. We must not allow room for such actions under any circumstances. Furthermore, the public must not say 'yes' to the government in this referendum. Voters must exercise extreme caution when casting their ballots," he said.
He stated that a referendum is not something that should be conducted in a manner that leaves the public in a state of uncertainty. He further emphasized that reducing the number of public votes diminishes the opportunity for citizens to have their say, asserting that this should not be done even under the guise of cost-cutting measures.
He further stated that the local council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) elections represent the final opportunity for Maldivians to voice their dissent against the current administration. He urged the public not to let this opportunity slip away.
