The current state of national affairs suggests that this administration lacks the resolve to implement the death penalty, stated Abdul Ghafoor Moosa, the interim chairperson of the MDP and Member of Parliament for the Hanimaadhoo constituency.
MP Ghafoor made these remarks while speaking at a gathering organized by the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP). The lawmaker stated that the MDP’s current efforts are focused on clarifying the government's actions to the public. He further cautioned that granting the government victory in upcoming elections would ultimately prove detrimental to the citizens.
The member highlighted that the current administration lacked the resolve to fly the national flag at half-mast following the passing of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Furthermore, the member noted that the government failed to even issue a formal condemnation of the incident.
Ghafoor stated that this reflects the current state of a government that rose to power by exploiting Islam as a political tool.
For heaven's sake. We cannot vote for this government in the upcoming two elections. It is becoming increasingly clear to us that we simply cannot afford to grant this government control of the local council elections either.Abdul Ghafoor Moosa, Member of Parliament for the Hanimaadhoo constituency.
Furthermore, Ghafoor stated that religious scholars must also speak out on whether current affairs are being conducted appropriately. He emphasized that Muslims should possess the courage to speak the truth. However, Ghafoor asserted that this administration has demonstrated nothing but deceit and dishonesty.
The Member stated that these circumstances clearly demonstrate that the current administration lacks the resolve to enforce the death penalty.
The Supreme Court has already ruled to uphold the death penalty, yet this administration lacks the courage to carry it out. Therefore, rather than standing before the public and making bold claims about religion, it would be far better for them to simply stay home and hide under their covers.Abdul Gafoor Moosa, Member of Parliament for the Hanimaadhoo constituency.
The Member stated that instead of fulfilling its promises, the current administration is perpetrating significant deceptions against the public, and called upon citizens to raise their voices against these actions.
