MP Dawood unaware that RDC was contracted to paint traffic signs on Kulhudhuffushi roads
Dawood has faced widespread public criticism following his remarks claiming that the maintenance of Kulhudhuffushi’s roads and the development of parking zones are responsibilities of the local council, despite the government having already officially contracted these projects to the Road Development Corporation (RDC).

Mohamed Dawood, the Member of Parliament for North Kulhudhuffushi constituency, has stated that the development of parking zones and traffic signage in Kulhudhuffushi City is a responsibility of the local council that remains unfulfilled. This remark comes despite the government having already contracted the Road Development Corporation (RDC) to carry out the project.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Kulhudhuffushi City PNC Male' Area hub last Friday night, MP Dawood made false allegations claiming that the Kulhudhuffushi Council has failed to provide the municipal services mandated to them under the Decentralization Act. Specifically, the Member accused the council of negligence, citing their failure to develop parking zones within the city.
However, the government has contracted the Road Development Corporation (RDC) to undertake the second phase of the Kulhudhuffushi road development project. The scope of work primarily includes painting pedestrian crossings, installing speed breakers and streetlights, as well as constructing pavements and installing road signage. The project also encompasses the formal organization of the streets, which includes the designation and demarcation of specific parking zones.
Furthermore, while it has been noted that the second phase of the Kulhudhuffushi road construction project remains incomplete, the government nonetheless contracted the third phase of the project to the Road Development Corporation (RDC) last year.
Therefore, by holding the City Council accountable for such large-scale projects managed by state-owned enterprises, Member Dawood demonstrates a significant misunderstanding of the matter.
In response to MP Dawood’s remarks, members of the public are expressing concern over what they describe as an attempt to mislead the people by claiming that the council has failed to carry out tasks mandated by the government.
