Power Outage in Nolhivaranfaru: Service Restored After Nearly 19 Hours!
The local council has expressed concern that Fenaka’s current trial power supply fails to provide a permanent solution, as the existing generators are inadequate for the island's population and there is no backup system in place. To effectively resolve the ongoing power crisis, the council stated that two 1-megawatt generators are required.

The Nolhivaranfaru Island Council has reported that electricity services were restored approximately 19 hours after a power outage hit the island on Tuesday.
The power outage in Nolhivaranfaru occurred on Tuesday morning at approximately 6:30 a.m.
When contacted by RaajjeTV’s "Fashaairu" program on Wednesday regarding the issue, the council stated that electricity services were restored at approximately 3:00 a.m. on Tuesday night.
Electricity has currently been restored on a trial basis. No new engines were brought in; the issue was caused by a fire in a panel board. A component of the 800kW generator was completely destroyed by the fire. We have since procured the necessary parts and brought in technicians to carry out the repairs.Nolhivaranfaru Council
The council stated that Tuesday's power outage caused significant disruptions to essential services, leaving residents in a state of considerable distress throughout the day. According to the council, Fenaka has currently restored electricity on a trial basis, and it remains unclear whether a permanent solution to the issue has been established.
The entire island of Nolhivaranfaru is currently without power following a technical failure in the dynamo of its 800 kW generator, a unit that was commissioned for the island in April last year.
The Fenaka powerhouse in Nolhivaranfaru operates with three generators. In addition to the 800 kW unit currently experiencing technical issues, the facility houses 600 kW and 400 kW generators. However, the 600 kW generator has been out of service for an extended period due to mechanical failure.
Expressing concern over the island's ongoing power issues, Council President Abdulla Nadeem stated that despite the increase in electricity demand due to population growth, the Nolhivaranfaru Fenaka branch lacks a backup generator. He further noted that the current situation requires two 1-megawatt generators. However, despite repeated requests made to both the previous and current administrations, no satisfactory response has been received.
Fenaka Corporation was unavailable for comment regarding this matter.
