The entire Addu City suffered a complete power outage on the first Friday of Ramadan, as ongoing electricity issues remain unresolved.
Power outages occurred across Addu City at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Friday.
Addu Fenaka has reported that the powerhouse is currently offline following a technical failure in one of its generators. Consequently, electricity services have been disrupted across the interconnected islands of Addu City.
While Fenaka has stated that efforts are underway to resolve the issue, the utility provider has not yet provided an estimated time for the restoration of electricity.
While the entire Addu City experienced a power outage on Friday, the city also faced a similar blackout on the 11th of this month.
Addu City Mayor Ali Nizar has previously emphasized the need for a permanent solution to the city's recurring power outages. He further warned that electricity consumption is expected to surge during the month of Ramadan, raising concerns that the current capacity will be unable to meet the increased demand.
However, many residents of Addu City contend that the current administration is failing to work towards a permanent solution for the city's persistent electricity issues. Residents have expressed deep concern over the government's recurring approach of sourcing used generators from other locations to provide temporary fixes whenever the power supply fails.
