Sh. Funadhoo Fenaka office fails to pay rent for 15 months, refuses to vacate premises despite being served eviction notice
A notice to vacate was issued earlier this year for a 4,000-square-foot building leased in 2022 to house the Fenaka office in Sh. Funadhoo, following the non-renewal of the lease agreement and persistent unpaid rent. Despite ongoing efforts to recover the outstanding payments through discussions with relevant authorities and prior indications that the funds would be settled before Ramadan, the payment remains outstanding.

It has been revealed that the Sh. Funadhoo Fenaka office has failed to pay rent for its premises for 15 months and has refused to vacate the building despite being served an eviction notice.
Fenaka Corporation established its office at Sh. Funadhoo under a monthly lease agreement of MVR 15,000. To date, the utility company has accumulated more than MVR 225,000 in unpaid rent for the premises.
The building's owner, Abdulla Rauf Ali, told RaajjeMV that he has made repeated attempts to recover the outstanding rent. He stated that after these persistent efforts failed, he shared his grievances and concerns on social media. Rauf further noted that although Fenaka had assured him this February that the rent would be settled in full before Ramadan, the company has since stopped answering his calls.
"We have not received any of the payments due to us for 15 months. This is a matter of grave concern," Rauf said.
He further stated that, in addition to the non-payment of rent, the lease agreement for the premises has now expired. According to Rauf, the agreement concluded in 2024, and the failure to renew it was due to negligence on the part of the Fenaka office in Sh. Funadhoo.
Rauf stated that the agreement expired on December 31, 2024. He noted that despite sharing concerns over the failure to renew the contract, he has yet to receive a satisfactory response.
"I have shared these concerns with officials at various levels within Fenaka. I also spoke with the team responsible for drafting agreements here, but they simply stated that the matter is under review," Rauf said.
Rauf stated that he had issued two separate notices to vacate the premises if the rent remained unpaid. He noted that a notice to vacate was issued earlier this year as well, but Fenaka failed to respond. Rauf further highlighted that this situation is causing him significant financial loss.
The property was leased to Fenaka for its operations in 2022. The premises span an area of 4,000 square feet.
