Employees of the Lhaimagu Fenaka branch have been suspended with pay for criticizing government policies.

Two employees of the Fenaka branch in Lhaimagu island of Shaviyani atoll have been suspended for criticizing the policies of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's government.

Fenaka has suspended Adam Rauf, the Station Manager of the island's Fenaka branch, and Mohamed Shafiu, the Deputy Station Manager. Both employees have been suspended for a period of 30 days.

The document notifying their suspension states that they were suspended in connection with an ongoing investigation. However, it is not known what specific case is being investigated regarding these employees.

It is understood that while the two have been suspended with pay, they will not receive any additional allowances.

In a letter signed by Fenaka Corporation's Managing Director Mohamed Arif and sent on August 19 to Station Manager Adam Rauf and Deputy Station Manager Mohamed Shafiu, it was stated that due to an ongoing investigation and the need for further inquiry into the matter, they have been temporarily barred from reporting to work for 30 days starting from 20 August 2025, with pay, in accordance with Article 40 (b) of the Fenaka Corporation Employee Regulations 2022.

Recently, it has come to light that a large number of Fenaka employees are being suspended. As such, the Secretary General (SG) of Alif Alif Atoll Council was recently suspended without any specific reason given.

Mohamed Shafeeg, who is also actively involved in the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) campaigns in Alif Alif Atoll, was suspended from his position last Monday. According to the suspension letter sent to him, he was suspended with pay until September 17. However, the specific reason for the suspension was not mentioned.

In addition to this, five employees of B. Thulhaadhoo Fenaka who submitted a petition to Fenaka highlighting numerous issues with the temporary manager have been suspended as well. The five employees were also suspended with pay for a period of one month.
