Civil service salaries decreased; those previously earning 22,000 MVR are now receiving only 14,000 MVR: Azim
Male' City Mayor Adam Azim has accused the government of deceiving the public regarding civil service salary increments, further alleging that the administration is prioritizing personal interests and political legacy over addressing the critical housing needs of Male' residents.

The current administration has drastically reduced the salaries of civil service employees, claims Male' City Mayor Adam Azim, who is also contesting the upcoming mayoral election on the MDP ticket. Azim noted that individuals who previously earned 22,000 Rufiyaa are now receiving only 14,000 Rufiyaa.
Azim made these remarks during an interview with RaajjeTV on Sunday night, while participating in the MDP’s door-to-door campaign activities.
Azim stated that the government recently claimed to have increased the salaries of civil service employees working at the council. However, he clarified that this is not the reality of the situation. Azim further asserted that the government's claims regarding the pay rise are false and intended to mislead the public. He noted that numerous civil service employees are currently expressing grievances over their salaries being reduced.
"Today presents a golden opportunity to say no to those who deceive and mislead. We must seize this chance. We must not grant further opportunities to those who lie to the public," he said.
Azim stated that the current administration prioritizes self-interest in all its actions. He noted that the government continues to put its own interests first, even when it comes to granting land to Male' residents and completing other housing projects. Azim further criticized the government for prioritizing its own legacy by spending on the Rasmalé project while citizens continue to suffer in cramped 10-by-10-foot rooms, arguing that this demonstrates a failure to put the people's needs first.
"Prioritizing other matters while the people are in such distress, without addressing their grievances, is a clear indication that the government is putting its own interests first. Those who do not value the concerns of the citizens will have nothing to offer them," he said.
