He emphasized the necessity of rejecting President Muizzu in this vote, characterizing the move as an attempt to diminish the government's accountability to the people. Ahmed Didi, the Member of Parliament for the Maradhoo constituency, has accused the current administration of repeatedly deceiving the public through various "scams." He characterized the upcoming referendum—which seeks to decide whether to align the schedules of the presidential and parliamentary elections with the local council elections—as yet another major scam.
In an exclusive interview with RaajjeMV, MP Didi characterized the upcoming referendum on synchronizing local council, presidential, and parliamentary elections as a "major scam." He urged the public to remain vigilant and not fall victim to this deception.
Didi stated that, in line with the wishes of the majority of the public, it is necessary to reject President Muizzu. He further noted that the ongoing efforts to overhaul the entire system—effectively requiring the President to seek the people's mandate only once every five years—is a matter of profound concern for the citizens.
During our ongoing visits to the islands across the country, many citizens have raised a specific question regarding a challenge President Muizzu has presented to them, questioning the purpose behind his actions. From what I observe, the President is approaching the people and essentially signaling that he no longer wishes to return to them. This is the predicament he has placed before the public.Ahmed Didi, Member of Parliament for the Maradhoo constituency.
Furthermore, Member Didi stated that observations from ongoing visits to the islands of Haa Alif Atoll clearly indicate that the public is prepared to reject the proposal in the upcoming vote. In addition, the National Congress of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has officially passed a resolution to oppose the referendum, which seeks to decide whether the presidential and parliamentary elections should be held concurrently with the upcoming local council elections.
Didi further emphasized that in a democratic state like the Maldives, it is essential to engage in consultations to seek public opinion or the voice of the people on such significant matters that directly impact the citizenry.
