The President of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Abdulla Shahid, has called for an end to the intimidation of state-owned enterprise (SOE) employees, alleging that the government is attempting to influence the upcoming Local Council and Women's Development Committee elections.
In an exclusive interview with RaajjeMV during the MDP leadership’s campaign visit to Haa Alif Atoll for the upcoming local council elections, MDP President Abdulla Shahid alleged that the government is forcibly re-registering state-owned enterprise (SOE) employees to different islands to secure their votes. He called on the administration to immediately cease the practice of transferring employees' voting registries to locations outside their home islands.
These actions are being carried out outside the bounds of the law and established regulations. I call upon the government to immediately return to the rule of law. I urge the administration to ensure a fair, just, and transparent election. The MDP will not be shaken by influence or intimidation. MDP members across every island possess a far greater courage than that.Abdulla Shahid
Furthermore, Shahid stated that in every island of Haa Alif Atoll, projects initiated by the MDP government have come to a standstill. He noted that over the past two years, the current administration has failed to undertake any developmental work on these islands, leaving them to fall into a state of neglect.
Shahid noted that the islands of Haa Alif Atoll remain steadfast in their support for the MDP. He expressed confidence that the current administration will be defeated in the upcoming elections.
