Handing over the decentralization system to any party other than the MDP would be the final, worst, and most dangerous step the people could take: Addu Mayor Nizar
Accusing the current administration of dismantling the decentralization system, he emphasized the importance of maintaining an MDP-led council for the development of Addu City, while further asserting that the government has failed to undertake any meaningful developmental projects in the region.

Addu City Mayor and mayoral candidate Ali Nizar has stated that handing over the decentralization system to any party other than the MDP would be the final, worst, and most dangerous step the public could take.
Nizar made these remarks while addressing the MDP's "Heyvalla Thayyaaru" rally.
He stated that the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) was responsible for shaping a governance system that empowers citizens and brings the administration closer to the people. Highlighting that this system is deeply rooted in the MDP's ideology, Nizar noted that those who oppose the party are inherently against this framework. He further remarked that whenever those opposed to the MDP’s philosophy come to power, they completely dismantle the decentralized system.
He noted that while the current administration has introduced approximately 18 amendments to the Decentralization Act, no substantive improvements have been made to the system itself. Nizar expressed deep concern over the erosion of the democratic progress achieved through the efforts of the MDP, stating that as someone who has closely observed the evolution of the system, witnessing the dismantling of these foundations is deeply troubling.
