Status of Manadhoo multipurpose sports complex project, funded by Indian Embassy, remains unclear: Council
While the multipurpose sports complex project in N. Manadhoo, funded by the Indian Embassy during the previous MDP administration, remains stalled, the current government has instead initiated the development of a fitness and recreation center. However, despite the completion deadline fast approaching, progress on the fitness center has been significantly delayed and is not proceeding at the expected pace.

Moomina Solih, a member of the N. Manadhoo Island Council, has stated that the status of the multipurpose sports complex project—funded by a grant from the Indian Embassy under the previous MDP administration—remains unclear since the change in government.
Speaking to RaajjeMV, Moomina stated that while the project is of significant importance to the island's youth, the council remains unclear on its current progress.
Moomina stated that the funding required for the construction of a multipurpose sports complex in Manadhoo was secured through the Indian Embassy during the previous administration. However, she noted that the project faced delays at the time because the bids submitted by companies exceeded the allocated budget.
Moomina stated that when the Manadhoo Council met with Minister Rafeeu in 2025 to inquire about the project, the Minister provided assurances that the work would proceed. She noted that the Ministry indicated the project would resume after downsizing the scope to align with the allocated budget, and confirmed that the necessary land has already been designated and handed over to the Ministry.
Moomina stated that while there is still no clear timeline for the commencement of the sports complex project, the current administration has begun work on constructing a fitness center in Manadhoo. However, she noted that despite the government-mandated deadline for the fitness center's completion fast approaching, progress on the project remains significantly stalled and is not proceeding at an acceptable pace.
As President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu marks two years in office, public grievances are mounting over the lack of progress on development projects across many islands. A significant number of people have highlighted that numerous infrastructure projects initiated by the previous MDP administration have now either come to a complete standstill or have faced substantial delays.
Concerns are mounting among the public over delays by the current administration in progressing numerous projects initiated by the previous government to establish essential services and improve living standards across the atolls.
