Club Valencia and Super United Sports (SUS) tied in the Dhiraagu Dhivehi Premier League (DDPL) match held on Thursday, while Da Grande Sports Club beat United Victory (UV) in the second game of the day.
Neither Valencia nor SUS was able to score in Thursday evening’s match.
This is the first match SUS has played since Mohamed Shiyaz’s appointment as the club’s coach.
This is also Valencia goalie and National Football Team’s goalie Mohamed Faisal’s first game this ongoing DDPL.
Both Valencia and SUS showed an equal performance into the beginning of the match, with both teams having gotten good opportunities to score. Into the very beginning of the game, goalie Faisal controlled a ball by SUS midfielder Ahmed Hameed.
SUS’s goalkeeper also controlled two balls by the opponent’s midfielder Abdulla Midhuhath Fahmy and captain Ali Ashfaq in the first half.
Neither of the teams were able to amp up their attack game into the second half either.
Speaking after the match, SUS Coach, Shiyaz stated that he was content with the players’ performance and that they had good opportunities to win the match, based on their chances to score. He noted there are some improvements needed to be brought.
Valencia Coach Mohamed Athif stated that although they didn’t win the match, chances are slim for them to lose their spot on the league table and that they will need to make full use of all opportunities to secure the top spot in the table.
With these results, Valencia remains in the second spot of the league table with 12 points.
SUS falls to fourth sport with eight points from seven matches played.
Da Grande Sports Club VS United Victory (UV)
Da Grande Sports Club beat United Victory during Thursday’s second game, tying with Valencia in the second spot of the league table with 12 points.
Da Grande beat UV 2-1.
Although UV showed a good performance into the beginning of the game, Da Grande took the lead at the 23rd minutes, with a goal from captain Yasfaad Habeeb.
UV amplified their attacks into the second half and scored their only goal not long after.
Three minutes before the end of the game, Da Grande widened the gap with their winning score by Ayaz Ahmed.
Although UV was granted a penalty shot at the last minute, the team failed to score.
UV Coach Ihsan Abdul Ghanee stated that UV was presented with the same issue as in other matches, due to the absence of a top striker. Ghanee added that the team aims to dodge being eliminated in the first relegation.
Da Grande Coach Ismail Mahfooz stated that he is pleased with the team’s performance and that he hopes to improve their game in the second round of the league.
UV remains at the bottom of the league table with three points from seven matches played in the league thus far.
