Maldives Road Development Corporation (MRDC) has become the champions of the Club Maldives Cup after beating Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) in the final match on Monday.
MPL took the lead in the first half, scoring three goals. The team’s Ali Shifau scored two goals, including the third goal just a minute after Hassan Ahmed scored their second goal in the 26th minute.
While the first half ended with MRDC trailing by three goals, they came out strong in the second half, equalizing the game in the last few minutes, taking it to a penalty shootout.
MRDC, who is the runner-up team of Club Maldives Cup 2016, won the shootout 4-3.
Most Valuable Player of the final match was awarded to MRDC Captain Ismail “Messi” Easa, while the team’s coach was picked as the best coach of the cup.
