Maldives reported its lowest daily rise in Covid-19 cases since June, on Monday.

11 new cases were announced on Monday, from the over 1,800 samples tested within 24 hours. Seven of the cases are from the greater Male’ region while three are from operational resorts and one from a residential island.

With an additional 25 recoveries reported on Monday, the country’s recovery rate is at 95.15 percent with a total of 12,730 patients having recovered from the virus. Mortality rate is at 0.36 percent with 48 deaths.

There are 593 active coronavirus cases across the island nation, with 484 of the cases in the greater Male’ region. Further, there are 37 active cases is outlying atolls, 50 cases in tourist establishments, 21 cases in island under development as well as one active case in an industrial island.

62 patients are receiving treatment at hospitals, five less than the previous day.

Out of the 13,379 coronavirus infections confirmed in the island nation since March, 63.11 percent are locals. 24.47 percent of the total cases are Bangladeshis; the largest migrant worker population in the country.

While Maldives first Covid-19 cases were confirmed from a resort in March, a community transmission was detected on April 15. This led to a complete lockdown in the capital, as well as a partial lockdown across the country with travel between islands banned.

There was a second surge in cases after the island nation entered the third phase of lockdown easing in July with over a hundred new daily infections reported for days, however, there has been a gradual decrease in daily cases since September.
