The President's Office provided this information in response to a Right to Information (RTI) request submitted by RaajjeTV. The inquiry sought details regarding the staffing levels at Hilaaleege, the official residence of Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef, specifically requesting the total number of staff employed in his service, the breakdown of local and expatriate workers, and the total monthly expenditure incurred.
This refers to a Right to Information (RTI) request submitted by RaajjeTV to the President's Office on June 24, 2025. Following a lack of response to the inquiry, RaajjeTV filed a formal complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office on January 24, 2026.
The President's Office has issued a response following a formal complaint. According to the response, a total of 27 staff members are currently employed at Hilaaleege, consisting of 16 expatriates and 11 Maldivians. The President's Office further disclosed that the monthly expenditure for staff salaries and allowances amounts to MVR 352,611.44.
The President's Office attributed the delay in responding to the time required to retrieve and compile the necessary information, noting that a high volume of similar requests had been submitted by other parties alongside the applicant's inquiry.
Furthermore, the Information Commissioner’s Office noted that the President’s Office has failed to comply with the law, which mandates that every information request must be processed without delay. The law stipulates that requested information must be provided as soon as possible and strictly within a maximum period of 21 days.
