Two more Covid-19 cases have been confirmed from Kandima Maldives.

The Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) revealed that 33 samples collected from the island were tested for Covid-19 on Sunday night. Samples were collected from 21 tourists and 12 employees.

Two employees tested positive for the virus on Sunday. Since then, HEOC revealed that 149 more samples have been collected for Covid-19 testing.

On Sunday, authorities confirmed 17 Covid-19 cases from the resort. The resort was placed under monitoring on Saturday. Entering and leaving the island has been prohibited under this measure.

HEOC further revealed that tourists in the resort who are scheduled to depart from the Maldives and are not contacts of the positive cases, will need to conduct PCR testing and will only be allowed to leave if their test result come back negative.

A 60-year-old Maldivian employee in the resort passed away close to 10pm on Friday and authorities took samples from him as he had exhibited Covid-19 symptoms. His test results came back positive on Saturday, which makes this the 38th death to the pandemic in the island nation.

HEOC’s Spokesperson, Dr. Nazla Rafeeq on Saturday revealed that a team from the Dhaal Atoll Hospital, where the 60-year-old was taken before he passed away are active on the island since Sunday.
