Monitoring measures placed in Hoandeddhoo island of Gaaf Dhaal atoll have been lifted, after over a month.
A local spread of Covid-19 was confirmed in the island in early September, after two cases had been confirmed from the four individuals who were under home quarantine as mandated after traveling from capital Malé City.
On September 4, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) placed monitoring measures in the island and urged residents to cooperate in their efforts to curb the spread of the virus.
Monitoring measures were lifted on Sunday morning, close to 9am.
A total of 45 coronavirus cases were confirmed from the island and a total of 462 samples were collected for testing.
Hoandeddhoo island had the greatest number of cases outside the greater Malé region, before the 53 Covid-19 cases were detected in southernmost Addu City recently.
The last case of the virus to have been discovered from Hoandeddhoo was on September 24 and 44 patients have made recoveries thus far.
Also on Sunday, HPA revealed that two new Covid-19 infections have been detected from Kulhudhuffushi City.
The two new cases were from individuals who were in home quarantine and pushes the total case count in the northern city to seven.
The first case was detected from the city on September 25, when the captain of a vessel en route from capital Malé City tested positive. Three of the captain’s contacts tested positive later on and another individual in home quarantine tested positive on September 27.
Although monitoring measures were placed in Kulhudhuffushi City, they were lifted after the contact tracing process was completed.
According to the latest statistics publicized by HPA, there are 114 active cases in residential islands including 51 Maldivians and 53 foreigners.
