All Maldivians in Nepal are "safe for now," says the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Ministry, on Sunday, said that some Maldivian students in Biratnagar, Nepal "are affected by the flooding situation in Nepal," adding that all Maldivians there "are safe for now".

Noting that it is "closely monitoring the ongoing situation in Nepal," the foreign ministry said that it is in touch with all the Maldivian students residing in the affected areas. Jhapa, Morang Sunsari, Sapttari, Siraha, Sarlahi, Rautahat, Banke, Bardiya and Dang districts are the worst affected areas.

The Honorary Consul of the Maldives in Nepal is also providing them "with any required assistance".

At least 47 people have died due to landslides and flooding triggered by heavy rainfall in southern Nepal, leaving thousands homeless. While the flooding and landslides started on Friday, the death toll is expected to go up.
