Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has completed 58 percent of the coastal protection project in Fohdhoo island of Noonu atoll.
Making the reveal via Twitter, the company stated that work on the design and build of the project is well underway and they are currently working on backfill area leveling work and geo-bag filling which will be used for revetment construction.
Under the scope of the project, MTCC is tasked with filtering 1,400 cubic meters of sand, filling geo-bags with sand and backfilling 5,000 cubic meters of sand as well as placing of geo-bags along a 180 meters area.
MTCC revealed that the project will help protect from coastal erosion and ensure the area is “a great place to live and visit”.
The company was contracted the project by the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure on February 25, 2020.
The project is worth MVR 7.6 million and received Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) approval on March 18.
MTCC was tasked to complete the project within 180 days.
