A seven-month-old is among the Covid-19 cases announced on Friday.
The boy has been identified as Case 744, and is among three children that tested positive for the virus on May 8; a seven-year-old girl (Case 743) and a two-year-old (Case 741) also tested positive on Friday.
While the seven-month-old is the youngest Covid-19 patient confirmed in the country thus far, a total of 10 children under 10 have tested positive for the virus.
International research shows that children and adolescents are just as likely to become infected as any other age group and can spread the disease but that "only around one percent of critical cases involved children, while deaths remain extremely rare".
A total of 744 Covid-19 cases have been confirmed in the Maldives thus far, 20 have recovered and there have been three Covid-19 deaths.
