Many participated

Protests have flared out in Male’ City after months of inaction. The protesters are calling for a restoration to their rights.

Police had already pepper sprayed the protesters. Henveyru Central Constituency MP Ali Azim was arrested and removed from the protest.

The protest started in the middle of the event held in MDP headquarters on Friday evening.

This is the first time such a large number had amassed on the streets following the amendments to the Peaceful Assembly Act.
