Maldives total Covid-19 case count has risen to 468, with an additional 72 Bangladeshi nationals testing positive.

The new cases confirmed belong to the same cluster according to Health Ministry's Covid-19 Dashboard. Bangladeshi nationals who have tested positive for the disease, make up more than half of the total cases.

Expatriate workers, especially those living in cramped and inadequate living quarters have been identified as being at high-risk of contracting the disease. The largest cluster identified in the Maldives comprises of 95 individuals who shared a living space.

Thursday has seen the highest tally of cases reported in the archipelago nation, with 179 cases reported within a single day. The previous highest tally was 45 new cases, reported on 25th April.

It is highly likely the total case count will increase beyond 500 cases given that 697 samples are pending as reported by the HPA.
