All the samples collected from suspected coronavirus cases in Summer Island Resort have tested negative, according to the Health Protection Agency (HPA).
The agency, via Twitter late Saturday night, revealed that the seven people suspected of Covid-19 “have all been tested as negative”.
While the resort island was on temporary lockdown following the suspected cases, HPA said that the measures on the island have been lifted following these results.
Summer Island Resort is the second island to have restrictions lifted, following negative results. Measures placed on Thinadhoo island of Vaavu atoll was lifted on Saturday, after an individual with symptoms tested negative.
Maldives confirmed its first two cases of Covid-19 on Saturday night. Two foreign staff members at Kuredu Island Resort have tested positive for the disease; they were tested after showing flu-like symptoms, and after an Italian tourist that recently vacationed there, informed authorities of having tested positive for Covid-19.
The resort is still under temporary quarantine, with authorities saying that this period “will be determined by medical experts”. They are currently conducting “contact tracing” and are to have identified people that were in contact with the patients.
They are currently in self-isolation “along with secondary contacts” and are to be monitored for 14 days, as per protocol.
Temporary restrictive measures were initiated on Sandies Bathala Maldives -a resort in North-Aril atoll- late Saturday night.
Noting that an Italian national holidaying at the resort had developed Covid-19 like symptoms and is undergoing monitoring and testing, HPA said that the measures will be in place “until contact tracing is completed”.
