Criminal Court has remanded city council member Zaidhul Ameen’s by an additional seven days.
He was arrested on charges of attempting to bribe a judge on the 13th of January. He has been remanded eight times thus far.
In February, made allegations against the Maldives Police Service (MPS) that officers were attempting to coerce him into a confession against former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, the leader of his faction of the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives.
Ameen’s wife had, on February 23, filed the case at HRCM, asking for his protection, adding that Ameen was being 'used as a political weapon'.
The Human Rights Commission of the Maldives said it was investigating the matter.
