15 nominations for Broadcom sent to committee for further review
 
Only nominees who garner votes from two-thirds of the committee's members will have their names forwarded to the parliament floor for approval.

A total of 15 nominations were sent for review to the Parliament's Committee on Independent Institutions.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's nominations for the vacancies on Maldives Broadcasting Commission (BroadCom) has been forwarded for committee review.

A total of 15 nominations were sent for review to the Parliament's Committee on Independent Institutions.

In prioritised order, they are; Shifla Ibrahim (G. Masodige), Aminath Ameena (Handhuvareege, Laamu Kunahandhoo), Aminath Nuzuha (Haa Alif Hoarafushi), Saudha Saleem (Raveeu Manzil, Haa Alif Hoarafushi), Mohamed Fazeen (Hazeleen, Baa Thulhaadhoo), Zubair Ahmed Maniku (G. Melvina), Moosa Rilwan (M. Haavila), Abdul Azeez Jamal Abubakuru (Maazee, Laamu Maavah), Hussein Faiz (Meadows, Laamu Kudahuvadhoo), Imrana Binth Abdulla (M. Courage), Ismail Saajid (Ma. Villa Rodhi), Ahmed Khaleel (Ma.Hathaa), Mohamed Rasheed Ahmed (H. Dhon Annaaruge), Ahmed Fairooz (Ma. Rasainu), and Aishath Areefa (Hibrosege, Gaafu Dhaal Gahdhoo).

The nominees are contesting for the vacancy left behind by the commission's former vice-president Fathmath Zaina- who was removed from the position following parliament approval.

Following her removal, the president forwarded his nominations for the vacancy to the parliament, however, none of the candidates were approved by the parliament's committee upon further review.

According to the parliament procedures, only nominees who garner votes from two-thirds of the committee's members will have their names forwarded to the parliament floor for approval.

Broadcom comprises of seven members out of which four seats became vacant after Fathmath Zaina’s removal and three members, including President Mohamed Shaheeb’s resigned. There is currently one vacancy at the commission with Mariyam Waheedha being elected the commission’s President, Ahmed Gais as Vice President and Ali Yoosuf as a member, earlier in December.
