Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed that the recently discovered measles-stricken child was not given the required dosages of measles vaccination.

Highlighting that the child who turned positive to measles was not vaccinated at 18 months and this month as well, HPA revealed that they had run tests on the three-year-old after finding symptoms, which had turned positive.

Further, HPA revealed that the child has been released after treatment at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

The case surfaced through the Measles and Rubella Surveillance System through which tests are run if patients show symptoms such as spots and fever.

While 66 individuals tested positive to measles and rubella during 2019, the infectious disease resurfaced in Maldives a few days back following which HPA immediately launched investigations.

HPA urged the public to take the required two dosages of vaccination if they have missed it, as measles is one of the most rapidly communicable diseases known.
