Opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Chairperson Hassan Latheef says that the decentralization system is the brainchild of the Party.

Speaking in the rally held in Haa Alif Dhihdhoo to launch the Local Council Elections campaign, Hassan Latheef said that MDP will not allow the system to be denigrated. Therefore, he said this election was an opportunity for the public to say no to the current Government and to reinstate the decentralized system of governance.

Hassan Latheef said that over the past three years, we have seen the Government emptying the state coffers to the private accounts of select individuals. As such, he said the public must defeat the Government in a resounding defeat.

He also said MDP will not watch while parts of the nation are sold off to the highest bidder, pledging to do everything possible to prevent such a sale. Hassan Latheef also noted that it was not a crime to call out against the sale of Faafu Atoll.

He added that the intentions of the Government regarding the sale of Faafu atoll was a clear threat to national security.

Hassan Latheef further said that the Government will not dare to postpone the Council Elections.

Local Council Elections are to be held in April.
