In the government's ongoing work to move chemical warehouse from the very congested capital city, SJ Construction has been assigned to develop warehouses on Thilafushi island.
The MVR 9.5 million project was awarded to the company last week, by the Greater Male' Industrial Zone Limited (GMIZL).
SJ Construction said that the construction work has already begun, and that they expect to finish the work within 30 days "if weather allows."
The company has been given a 30-day deadline.
SJ Construction has been contracted to build 34 warehouses in Thilafushi island; 17 of them will be smaller than 500sqm while the bigger ones will be between 800 to 1,000sqm.
The decision to relocate the chemical warehouses was made following the fire in a chemical warehouse in the Henveiru ward of the capital, that destroyed six homes and damaged several others. The fire tragedy claimed the life of one woman and displaced over four-hundred people.
