RaajjeMV has learnt that work has commenced, to build a platform inside the parliament chamber, for Speaker Abdulla Maseeh.

The platform will be 10 feet above the ground.

MP for South-Galolhu constituency, Ahmed Mahloof sent out a tweet on Saturday night, with photos, noting that "MNDF has started work to build a 10-foot-high platform inside the parliament chamber, instead of a glass box, on Saturday".

Previously there were reports of a "glass box" being built around the Speaker's chair, as opposition lawmakers continue to protest during parliament sittings.

A RaajjeMV team, who had gone near the parliament, had seen individuals carrying in wood logs inside the building. However, they did not respond to any of the team's questions.

RaajjeMV was also unable to get a comment from the Parliament's secretary general, as he did not respond to multiple calls.

As the MNDF are accused of conducting the work, RaajjeMV called MNDF's media officer Ibrahim Azim, who said that MNDF "has no knowledge of any such work in the parliament building".

He said "such work is conducted by the Parliamentary administration," adding that MNDF only carries out the security work at the Parliament.

Opposition parliamentarians have been protesting during parliament sittings, noting that Maseeh "is no longer eligible" to lead the sittings as Speaker, as a no-confidence motion had been submitted against him, with 45 signatures.

Parliament went into recess in late August, and is to reconvene in October.
