Maldives will be hosting next year’s Women’s Central Zone Volleyball Championship.

The announcement was made at the Asian Volleyball Confederation’s general assembly.

Ahmed Ibrahim, Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports, and Community Empowerment as well as member of the volleyball association’s normalization committee, represented Maldives at the general assembly.

Maldives had also proposed its bid to host the Men’s Central Zone Volleyball Championship, but lost to Bangladesh, after the country proposed to host the championship in remembrance of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the first President of Bangladesh.

Maldives has hosted two international volleyball championships, which were the AVC qualification rounds of the Volleyball Women’s World Cup 2017 and the Senior Men’s Central Zone Volleyball Championship.

The current government aims to host many international sporting events in Maldives and has won its bid to host the 2023 Indian Ocean Island Games.

Maldives will also host the 2020 Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship and on September host the Asian qualification rounds of the three-on-three world basketball championship.
