Former Attorney General Husnu Suood has said that he will ensure that the Bar Council is worthy of public trust.

Suood, who is vying for Bar Council presidency, said this on RaajjeTV’s Fala Surukhee show on Sunday night.

Speaking on the show, Suood said that a system needs to be established to professionally investigate disciplinary cases to gain public trust and uphold the dignity of lawyers.

Suood said that justice is being obstructed due to the commonplace issue of lawyers fleeing with their client’s money and lawyers working with judges for personal gain.

He said that there are around 400 unemployed people with the license to practice law and so authorities have to investigate this issue and also see whether law students are being given the best education, adding that that the unemployed lawyers need more training opportunities abroad.

Attorney Maumoon Hameed is also vying for Bar Council presidency while attorney Abdulla Muiz and former Civil Court judge Mohamed Haleem are vying for vice presidency.
