MMS predicts heavy rain over the next two days as monsoon strengthens

Heavy rainfall is expected nationwide, with authorities warning of strong winds and rough seas particularly affecting the northern and central atolls.

The Maldives Meteorological Service has forecasted widespread rain across much of the country over the next two days, August 11 and 12.
The office stated that the southwest monsoon is intensifying, with heavy rain clouds developing across the Maldives region.
The office has also stated that heavy rainfall is expected in some islands.
The Maldives Meteorological Service has stated that weather conditions are expected to be most severe across the northern and central atolls over the next two days.
The Maldives Meteorological Service stated that winds are expected to prevail from the southeast and south in the southern atolls, and from the southwest and west in the northern and central atolls, at speeds between 7 and 17 mph. Winds may gust up to approximately 35 mph during showers. The office further forecasted that seas across the country will be moderate, becoming rough during squalls.
