Barge runs aground in Raa In'guraidhoo

A barge, carrying construction material, has run aground a reef in Raa Atoll In’guraidhoo.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, deputy president of the In’guraidhoo atoll Council Abdulla Abdul Rahman said that that the barge ran aground the reef from the North side of the island, late Wednesday night.

While crew members, as well as Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has begun the work to refloat the vessel, Rahman said that it can be done “during high-tide.”

He said that the barge was carrying the construction material required to construct the island’s harbor. The job has been awarded to MTCC.
