A total of 235 traffic violations were reported in Hulhumalé last week, police statistics reveal.

Maldives Police Service (MPS) on Saturday publicized its statistics from 18-24 May, which shows that a total of 251 cases were reported from Hulhumalé within the week.

The number of traffic violations is extremely high, compared to the other cases reported.

They are: nine road accidents, 13 theft and robbery cases, three assaults, and one case related to drugs.

Out of the 235 traffic violations, two of them involved minors.

312 cases were reported in the capital’s suburb last week, out of which 294 were traffic violations, including two involving minors. Others were nine theft cases, four road accidents, two assaults, two waste violations and one drug related case.

Police earlier publicized its statistics for the first quarter of the year, which shows a total of 2,268 reported cases.

There were a total of 1,868 traffic violations reported in the first quarter, out of which 25 included minors. The second highest cases reported in the period are of theft; a total of 188 cases.

Other reported cases include; 95 road accidents, 44 drug related cases, 36 assaults, 28 robbery cases and nine waste violations.
