The social housing projects in Kulhudhuffushi are at a standstill, says the island council.
Speaking to RaajjeMV on Friday, council president Abdul Latheef Hassan said that housing is the main issue faced by Kulhudhuffushi residents and that many have applied for social housing in the past 13 years.
Hassan said that the project in 2012 to build row houses has been halted and that 20 of the houses were given to people late last year, and that another row house project stopped after 95% completion and the houses remain unused for seven years.
He said that another project site is in deterioration and that while contractors were hired twice to complete the houses, the project now needs to begin anew.

The council stated that they met with the housing minister during President Abdulla Yameen’s administration to address these issues, and have met with current housing minister Athifa Shakoor, but that they have yet to hear a specific date for when the projects will be restarted.
Highlighting that the island’s population is increasing, the council stated that the island residents are in need of a quick solution to their housing issue.
