The temperament and nature of Maldivians makes them most suitable for a parliamentary democracy, says former president Mohamed Nasheed.
Nasheed said that coalitions elected to office, with the promise of ensuring unified rules, have failed in the past two elections. Nasheed said that this is indicative of Maldivians and the presidential forms of government being unfamiliar with such coalitions.
The former president said this through a video message publicized in a campaign event on Friday. His campaign teams had travelled to Baa and Gaafu Dhaalu atoll as well.
Nasheed, who has been sentenced to a prison term of thirteen years, is competing in his Maldivian Democratic Party’s primary elections ahead of the presidential ballots slated for later this year.
Voting for the primary elections is to be held on 19th May.
