Former President Mohamed Nasheed met with the Ambassador of the United States to the Maldives, Dr. Atul Keshap, in Sri Lanka on Tuesday.

The jailed former President, who has been granted political asylum in the United Kingdom after being allowed to travel there for medical purposes in January 2016, traveled to Sri Lanka on Sunday.

Following the meeting held on Tuesday morning, Keshap tweeted that today, he “heard Mohamed Nasheed’s continuing commitment to democracy, human rights and transparency in Maldives."
