The Elections Commission has reaffirmed that e-voting systems will not be used in the presidential elections slated for September this year.
The commission’s recently appointed chief, Ahmed Shareef, said that the method of voting is set by law and a legal amendment must come before e-voting systems can be used.
Shareef further said that the commission may count the results of the ballot electronically, although procedures surrounding this is yet to established.
While taking votes electronically has been demanded by the public since 2015, the Elections Commission has said that it has been working towards it.
