MP Riyaz submits motion to review MVR 16 million used by Health Ministry
No action taken on negligent employees
Illegally used funds
Heavy penalties for delayed payments

Member of Parliament for Kimbidhoo Constituency Abdullah Riyaz has submitted a motion to the Financial Committee at the Parliament to review the MVR 16 million used by Health Ministry against the financial act.

In a letter sent to the Committee, Jumhooree Party Deputy Leader Abdullah Riyaz said the Audit Report for 2014 clearly shows that over MVR 16 million was used against the Ministry regulations. As such, he noted that there was clear negligence within the Ministry.

Riyaz said that MVR 8.59 million was incurred as penalty fees for late submission of work visa fees, which had not been recovered after investigation into the matter. He noted that the Ministry had not processed the MVR 6.25 million contract awarded to a caterer for National Drug Agency through the Tender Board. Additionally, the Ministry owed MVR 360.92 million to various parties, most of which are owed to Aasandha Corporation.

Riyaz added that MVR 552,627 was used against Civil Service Act for Nolhivaram Health Center and MVR 198,345 was used improperly as overtime for employees of IGMH. He added that the claimed overtime did not tally with the actual overtime figures. The Audit report said that in 2014, MVR 3.9 million was spent as over time, which does not tally up to documentation.

Riyaz further said the Audit report clearly shows that Health Ministry had used the appropriated funds against the financial rules.

As such, Riyaz said this was negligence on use of state funds and must be investigated by the Government Oversight Committee.
