Opposition MDP Parliamentary Group has passed not to respond to the Presidential Address of this year.
Quoting PG Leader and Hinnavaru Constituency MP Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, PG Deputy Leader and Maafannu North Constituency MP Imthiyaz Fahmy said that MDP will not respond to it.
Clause 84 of the Constitution says that President at the start of the Parliament sessions for the year, will deliver a statement on the status of the nation and what should be done to alleviate the issues. In reference to Clause 84 of the Constitution, Clause 25 subsection (b) of the Parliament laws states that Minority Leader of the Parliament must respond to the Address in the Parliament session, within 14 days.
President Yameen delivered the Address on the 14th of this month.
MDP had not responded to the two Presidential Addresses delivered by former President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik and none since then.
While the Party had not formally responded to the Address, it has been criticized on several platforms by senior officials of the Party.
